Two suppliers recently announced plans to increase capacity. First, Victrex Polymer Solutions of the U.K. (U.S. office in W. Conshohocken, Pa.) plans to boost its capacity for PEEK resin by about 70% with a new plant sized at about 6.4 million lb/yr. It wil come on stream in early 2015.

Meanwhile, FRX Polymers LLC, Chelmsford, Mass., has begun construction of its first commercial plant in Antwerp, Belgium. It produces unique polyphosphonate polymers and copolymers, which are clear, highly flame-retardant “cousins” of polycarbonate (see July 2009 Close Up). FRX has a pilot plant for its Nofia-brand resins and additives in Chelmsford and a semi-works plant in Switzerland.
