WEB EXCLUSIVE A variable-chemistry atmospheric plasma treater is designed for difficult-to-treat surfaces and specifically 3D extruded profiles such as wire, cable, tubing, sheet, and boards. The Plasma3 VCP from Enercon Industries Corp., Menomonee Falls, Wis., is said to eliminate the need for expensive priming, batching, and hazardous chemical surface-preparation processes. The unit reportedly provides “powerful yet gentle” in-line atmospheric-pressure treatment optimized to clean, etch, and functionalize a wide range of materials (such as PTFE) that would otherwise be unresponsive. The system may be configured with unique plasma chemistry blends to optimize treatment of different materials with conductive or non-conductive surfaces.
