Chilling Combination: Frigel Acquires Green Box

Frigel CEO Orindo Dorin said the acquisition is complementary for his company giving it product lines it previously didn’t offer, including cooling, sorting and inspection systems for closure production, as well as mold dryers, rapid mold heating/cooling technology, and temperature controls for die casting.

Frigel has two booths at NPE2018—S14085, W193—with the South Hall booth located in the bottle zone and featuring a cap-cooling line from Green Box. Al Fosco, marketing manager of the company’s U.S. subsidiary, Frigel North America Inc., said that in addition to complementary product lines, the combined company has a complementary sales structure. Green Box had strong penetration in the OEM market but little-to-no North American presence, while Frigel has strong representation in North America but minimal input into original machinery.

Dorin said there is some technology overlap between the companies in chillers, which will be harmonized into a single line over time. The company will retain Green Box’s 4,000-m² factory in Padua, adding its capacity to Frigel’s 9,000-m² site in Florence. Frigel also has production in Thailand and Brazil, as well as Milan, which makes cooling systems for industries beyond plastics. Green Box has 75 employees.

Indian Partnership With Matsui

Just prior to NPE, Frigel also announced a partnership with Matsui Technologies India Limited. The 50:50 joint venture called Frigel Intelligent Cooling Systems India Private Ltd. will see Frigel manufacture its line of Ecodry 3DK fluid coolers and Mircrogel RCS water-cooled chillers and temperature control units in Noida, India.
