Dealing for the first time ever with a waiting list and forced to move into new portions of the Orange County Convention Center to accommodate exhibitor demand, NPE2018 officially opened bigger than ever in Orlando.

Bill Carteaux, president and CEO of show organizer, the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS), broke down the show numbers for assembled members of the plastics trade press in a pre-show press breakfast.

  • 2100-plus exhibitors; first time have a wait list (220 companies)
  • 1.2 million net sq ft of exhibit space
  • 11,000-plus international attendees, hailing from 110 different countries
  • 21,730,000 lb of freight delivered, up from 20 million in 2015

A Mayoral Opening

To officially open the show, Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and two county commissioners joined Carteaux; NPE2018 Chairman Glenn Anderson of Milacron; and PLASTICS Vice Chairman, Wylie Royce or Royce Associates.

Jacobs described the impact NPE has on Orlando, noting that the OCCC pulls in 1.5 million attendees annually across all trade shows, with more than 68 million visitors to Orange Country every year.

“The size, scale and impact [NPE] has on our community and our convention center is second to none,” Jacobs said. Term limited and in our final term, Jacobs joked that the next mayor should thank her for helping line up the next three NPEs in Orlando: 2021, 2024 and 2027.
