NASA’s human-supporting rover has FDM parts

When you're tasked with extending human reach farther into space, stock parts and traditional manufacturing methods won't fly. Using Stratasys Fused Deposition (FDM) Technology, NASA engineers create complex rover parts, durable enough for Martian terrain. About 70 parts on NASA’s next-generation rover are 3D-printed in ABS, PCABS and polycarbonate plastics, including flame-retardant vents, pod doors and many custom fixtures. See how NASA harnessed the design flexibility and durable materials of a Stratasys 3D printer.

“We didn’t even give CNC machining a second thought. It was obvious that FDM was our best option.”
