A new line of cable-free cavity pressure sensors is said to simplify sensor handling and mounting while increasing flexibility and reducing maintenance. Introduced at the recent Fakuma show in Germany by the Swiss parent of Kistler Instrument Corp., Amherst, N.Y., the cable-free design uses the mechanical sleeve that supports the sensor in the mold platen to transfer the pressure signal from the sensor to a springloaded contact element in the mold platen. The moldmaker can shorten the sleeve as required to suit different platen thicknesses. The first cable-free pressure sensors to be offered with this new approach will be Type 6183AN (1 mm front diam.) and Type 6182BN (2.5 mm). The contact element has a single-wire cable that transfers the signal to a single- or multi-channel connector on the mold. A miniature pin contact for the cable allows easy replacement.
