Screw plastication consumes most of the energy on an injection machine, so two suppliers have outfitted accumulator-assisted hydraulic presses with new electric screw drives. The K-Tec line from Ferromatik Milacron Europe, Batavia, Ohio, is now offered in a hybrid version with electric plastication. For example, the 170-ton K-Tec 155 hybrid model allows for overlapping or parallel movements while reportedly saving 15% in energy consumption. An optimized machine base and mounting pads reduce noise. Electric screw drive is also new on S+ machines from Stork Plastics Machinery B.V. North America, Shirley, Mass. The new HX drive reportedly delivers 10% energy savings with no loss of speed or 10% faster cycles with the same energy consumption as before. Hybrid or fully hydraulic toggle presses are available from 110 to 1540 tons. (513) 536-2002 • www.ferromatik.com (978) 549-3004 • www.storkspm.com
