WEB EXCLUSIVE: Mitsubishi Gas Chemical America, Inc., N.Y.C., is offering new versions of its MXD6 nylon for barrier packaging. New grade S6003LD is designed to obtain better clarity in blends with PET for monolayer bottles. It is similar in density, heat resistance, and moisture absorption to existing grade S6007, but the new grade has lower melt viscosity and provides significantly less haze in PET blends at concentrations from 1% to 5%. There is also new S7007 grade for thermoforming. Its lower melting point (229 C/442 F) and slower crystallization make it especially suitable for coextrusion with polyolefins. It also boats slightly higher barrier than previous grades. A lubricated grade (K7007C) is said to give improved performance in extrusion.
