A new highly polar metallocene PE wax grafted with maleic anhydride is designed for bonding and compatibilization of natural fibers in polyethylene composites. Developed by Clariant Corp.'s Pigments & Additives Div., Coventry. R.I., TP Licocene PE MA 4351 is offered as a fine grain or granule. It has low melt viscosity for optimal wetting of the fibers. Mechanical properties of finished products are significantly improved, Clariant says. Improvements in modulus, tensile strength, and flexural strength are said to be particularly notable in highly filled compounds. Moreover, there is a significant reduction in water absorption, which ensures dimensional stability, Clariant claims.
