Sheet systems supplier Processing Technologies International (PTi), Aurora, Ill., has developed a new, patented system that integrates an anti-static coater into the frame of the pull-roll unit of its G Series roll stand. This permits anti-static solutions to be applied to sheet before thermoforming to minimize static charge in formed packages and eliminates the need for a separate anti-static coating unit. On the device, a positioning idler is moved mechanically so that a coating can be sprayed on either side of the sheet. If coating on both sides is necessary, the web is dipped into a bath of anti-static solution. The unit can be bypassed for applications requiring no anti-static solutions.
