Polystrand, Inc., Englewood, Colo., is starting up a new and larger production facility for continuous-fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites in Montrose, Colo. The 120,000 ft² facility is more than double the size of existing plants in Montrose and will enable Polystrand to produce up to 100 million lb/yr of composite materials. Polystrand reinforcing tape has been made with a variety of plastics, including recycled content. Polystrand tapes generally range from 60% to 80% continuous fibers by weight.
Meanwhile, Sabic Innovative Plastics, Pittsfield, Mass., will significantly boost capacity for its Stamax long-glass reinforced PP compounds at Genk, Belgium, to meet swiftly growing demand from automotive customers. A new production line is slated to open in the second half of 2013.
