Celanese to Unveil Latest Portfolio of Materials for Electric Vehicles
At upcoming Electric Vehicle Symposium, Celanese will showcase prototype of an all-in-1 battery module.
Celanese Corp. is participating in the 36th Electric Vehicle Symposium (EVS36) taking place June 11-14 in Sacramento, California, where it will showcase an expanded portfolio of materials and systems developments that accelerate innovation for advanced mobility applications. (According to Washington, D.C.-based show organizer Electric Drive Transportation Association, EVS36 is the most recent edition of the longest-running international conference devoted to electric transportation and technologies.)
Most notably, this will include a prototype of an all-in-1 battery module, based on tab cooling, structural thermoplastic cooling channels and an electrical connection plate. During the Battery and Drivetrain Technology session on June 14, Fabrice Giaume, global leader in Celanese’s Automotive Centers of Excellence, will explain the “All-in-1 Battery Module” multi-functional battery design, which reportedly can deliver higher battery pack energy density, a differentiated cooling system and a reduced number of components and manufacturing complexity. The concept is also said to enable the repair and replacement of battery cells for increased sustainability.
The company will also highlight its material-process-service solution for overmolding busbars with Zytel HTN material, which has been shown to reduce both manufacturing time and cost, while maintaining performance and safety standards. (Other Celanese offerings for busbar applications Fortron PPS, Frianyl PA, Vectra LCP and Crastin PBT. Two other highlights will include:
▪ Hybrid thermoplastic/aluminum cooling plate, created with global automotive tier 1 Novares, which can extend both range and battery life and is based on a Celanese technology called ZytelBond resin that quickly bonds aluminum to injection-molded parts made of Zytel resin, Zytel HTN or Celanyl PA.
▪ EV charging plugs and handles made of Zytel HTN handles designed to connect electric charging station cables to the car's charging socket, provide structural strength and electrical compatibility.
