Custom molder Suburban Plastics is investing $350,000 in its Grenada, Miss. plant, with plans to add presses, space and jobs. Suburban Plastics, which is headquartered in Elgin, Ill., is expanding its current factory in Grenada by 25,000 square feet and will be adding 60 jobs, according to the Hattiesburg American.

Suburban Plastics VP Jeremy Baxter told Plastics Technology that the expansion includes plans to add five to six compression and injection molding machines, ranging in clamp size from 300 to 700 tons. The investment is being driven by increased business in the Southeast, specifically in HVAC, lighting and appliance sectors.

Suburban Plastics was founded in 1946 and expanded into Mississippi in 1997. Its facility in Grenada currently covers 25,000 square feet, with 13 presses (five injection and eight compression), with approximately 40 to 50 employees, according to Baxter.

Baxter said Suburban will be hiring across the board as part of the expansion, including seeking new employees in production, quality, and engineering, as well as mold technicians and human resources staff.

Suburban Plastics, which molds thermoset and thermoplastic materials, is ISO 9001:2008 certified, with a total of more than 300 employees and 220,000 square feet of manufacturing space. Baxter said in thermosets, Suburban Plastics utilizes bulk molding and structural molding compounds.
