Milacron’s injection molding plans for what it says is the largest booth space at NPE2024 include a new universal injection molding platform, progressive co-injection technology, in-mold foil decorations, exclusive IIoT digital solutions and more. The show will serve as the global launch of its new M-Series machine line, which it says features the largest clamp stroke available as standard in a midtonnage machine range with a compact footprint.

A two-platen machine design ranging in clamp force from 500 to 1,250 tons, the M- Series has increased the maximum mold weight carrying capabilities, offering capacity from 15,400 to 51,800 lbs. Milacron says the machines have improved dry cycle times and supported strain rods, with tie bar spacing from 36.2 × 36.2 inches up to 61 × 47.2 inches. Maximum daylight range is from 72.8 inches up to 102.4 inches.

The machine is powered by Fanuc motors and drives, providing versatility and performance to meet the needs for a range of markets, including automotive and consumer goods to packaging and custom technical parts. Milacron says the bidirectional hydraulic pump is engineered for rapid pressure control, while maintaining lower maintenance costs. The closed-loop system is also said to improve cycle precision and repeatability. Combining the servo motors with efficient hydraulic components gives the M-Series high repeatability with 45% to 60% less energy consumption compared to induction motor machines.

Mosaic+ Control features a 21.5-inch touchscreen mounted on a swing arm to enable process technicians to better see the mold area, and it comes with 8+8 configurable I/Os with fully configurable cores. The injection unit can swivel out for easier screw removal, with hydraulic power swivel on 10,100 injection frames and up. There are twin-cylinder injection units for equal distribution across the screw, which has a higher L/D ratio for better plasticizing and melt homogeneity. Insulated heater bands are included, as are linear position transducers for accurate injection position control.

Additional technologies from Milacron at the show include the Q-Series machine, which ranges from 55 to 610 tons, featuring DME mold technology running a bio-resin application with custom ID/serialization via QR code stamping. There will also be Milacron-Fanuc Roboshot work cells, featuring advanced automation and a new micromolding LSR application. L-Series low-pressure injection molding (LPIM) of structural foam and structural web will be presented for large-part production. In co-injection, Mold-Masters will show pail molding with up to 50% recycled core and including in-mold labeling (IML) automation. In addition to in-mold foil decoration for automotive and appliance applications, Milacron will also feature OPC UA integration and its M-Powered IIoT solution.
