Two compact SCARA-type pick-and-place robots combining high speed and high payload capacity were unveiled recently by Toshiba Machine Co. America, Control Systems Div., Elk Grove Village, Ill. Three-axis TH550 and TH850 models can reach speeds up to 2000 mm/sec. Model TH550 has an 11-lb max. payload, total arm length of 550 mm, and positioning repeatability of ±0.015 mm for the x-y plane and ±0.01 mm for the z axis. The TH850 takes a payload of 44 lb and has total arm length of 850 mm and positioning accuracy of ±0.03 mm on the x-y plane and ±0.02 mm on the z axis.
