Datwyler has expanded its O-ring production capacity, adding molding machines to sites in Ningguo, China and Silao, Mexico. Those locations now join Schattdorf, Switzerland; Daegu, South Korea; Ontario, Calif.; Vandalia, Ohio; and Viadanica, Italy as manufacturing and development sites around the world.

Capable of producing thousands of O-rings every hour, the new 260-ton Engel molding machines will produce elastomer components for applications in battery thermal management, power electronics, transmissions, sensors, electric braking and driveline systems, a Datwyler spokesperson told Plastics Technology.

In a release, Datwyler said that it’s not only more reliable for its customers to have production plants close to them, but more sustainable in terms of transport. The new machines feature state-of-the-art cold runner technology designed by Datwyler for greater control of the compound temperature, keeping it at a low viscosity for production of high-precision components.

Alongside increasing its molding capabilities, Datwyler is also developing new coating tech for O-rings. Datwyler develops surface and coating offerings, including semi-permanent and permanent; PTFE; molykote; plasma treatment; polysiloxane and others.
