Erema and Amut Partner to Install New Extrusion Line at Alto Packaging

At the Alto Plastic Packaging site, 100% washed post-consumer flakes are processed into 100% food contact grade monolayer thermoforming sheet.

This past summer, Erema and Amut finalized the installation and commissioning of Alto Packaging’s first extrusion line for food-grade PET sheet in the New Zealand market. At the processor’s in Albany, New Zealand, Alto processes 100% washed post-consumer flakes into 100% food contact-grade monolayer thermoforming sheet. This represents the first system to be installed for this application in New Zealand.

Erema and Amut said due to the direct combination of Vacurema PET recycling technology and the Amut Inline Sheet production technology, there is no longer any extra process step; the melt goes straight from the Vacurema 1716 T Basic to the Amut plant without the need for pelletizing. The post-consumer PET is already decontaminated and pre-dried prior to extrusion in the vacuum reactor of the Vacurema Basic, with a throughput of up to 1500 kg per/hr.

After high-capacity filtration by Erema’s SW-RTF backflush filter and online IV measurement, the melt goes directly into the Amut Inline Sheet line, where it is processed into thermoforming sheet from 0.15-mm- to 1.2-mm thick. The sheet produced from the pure rPET is 100% food contact compliant and also fulfills FDA and other regulations. Alto thermoforms the material into trays and food containers.
