Martin Baumann has been named the new Managing Director of Arburg Inc. (Rocky Hill, Conn.), assuming the office June 1 and succeeding Friedrich Kanz. Kanz will enter retirement on June 30 after 23 years with the German headquartered supplier of automation and injection molding machines.

Established in 1990, Arburg Inc. has been based in Rocky Hill since 2015. As Arburg’s largest foreign market, the U.S. boasts three locations, with technology centers in Elgin, Ill., and Irvine, Calif., joining the headquarters in Connecticut. In total, Arburg has more than 100 employees in North America.

Baumann comes to Arburg from MAAG Group Americas where he most recently served as VP and general manager. Earning a bachelor’s degree in Plastics Technology from Aalen University of Applied Sciences, Baumann then received an MBA in International Marketing at the Export Academy in Reutlingen.

Starting in June, Arburg said Baumann will undergo an intensive familiarization program with the company in the U.S. in close cooperation with Arburg headquarters in Lossburg, Germany. Arburg noted that back in 2000, Kanz helped establish Arburg’s U.S. subsidiary, which would grow to become on of the company’s most important globally. Over the years, he moved Arburg and its products closer to customers by opening Arburg Technology Centers (ATC) in Illinois and California, while expanding service capabilities across the U.S. and Canada. He was also instrumental planning and moving the subsidiary headquarters to a larger operation in Rocky Hill, Conn., in 2015. Arburg notes that approximately 13,000 Allrounder injection molding machines are installed in the U.S., Canada and along the border with Mexico.
