Nexkemia Acquires Polystyrene Recycling Assets
The polystyrene manufacturer finalized its purchase of Eco-Captation, a recycler.
Nexkemia Petrochemicals, a Quebec-based supplier of expandable PS resins, has acquired the assets of Eco-Captation, a recycler of PS waste, also of Quebec.
Eco-Captation is the leading recycler of PS waste in Quebec and has a special focus on post-consumer recycled materials. The company combines artificial intelligence-enhanced optical sorting technology with a mechanical recycling process to convert plastic waste into raw materials made with post-consumer recycled material.

Nexkemia looks to learn from Eco-Captation’s recycling expertise as it works to reduce the carbon footprint of its insulation and packaging products by developing a circular model for EPS. The products resulting from the acquisition will be used by NexKemia applications where sustainability and circularity elements are essential, including high-performance cold chain packaging solutions and construction material.
“Scaling up Eco-Captation's technologies will allow Nexkemia to rapidly grow our capacity for sustainable expandable polystyrene solutions that incorporate a significant percentage of post-consumer recycled material,” said Pierre Beaudry, general manager of NexKemia.
