If you’re an extrusion processor, odds are pretty good you have sustainability on your mind. Maybe your company has implemented internal goals in place about utilizing more post-consumer scrap, become more energy efficient, or taking a look at bioresins. Or maybe your customers are requiring you to take these and other steps so that they can meet their own sustainability objectives.

It is with sustainability in mind that Plastics Technology brings you the ninth annual Extrusion Conference. Extrusion 2023 will take place Oct. 10-12 in Indianapolis, Ind. at the Hyatt Regency. The technical program is in place and registration is open

Extrusion 2023 Conference on Sustainability

Like our previous events, Extrusion 2023 will have general sessions, where information presented will be applicable to all extrusion processes; and an afternoon breakout session on Oct. 11, where talks will hone in on Film/Sheet, Pipe/Profile/Tubing, and Compounding. Like previous events, speakers will represent the leading minds in the world of extrusion, offering you tips, techniques and best practices that you can put in place to help make your operation more sustainable.

There will also be opportunities to network throughout the event with peers, speakers, sponsors and tabletop exhibitors.

If you register before Sept. 8 you’ll get a $200 discount from the full registration fee. And after that with a mouse click you can make your hotel reservation.

Sustainability is not a passing trend. Anyone who attended last year’s K 2022 show in Dusseldorf knows that the plastics industry is driving hard toward a circular economy. Many brand owners and OEMs are putting in place sustainability requirements that extend through their supply chain. Don’t be left behind.

  • Why Compression Ratio is Important

Compression ratios have been pretty much standardized over the years, based on what has typically worked before. But there are quite a few variables that must be considered in order to get the optimum performance from your screw.

Extruder screws and barrels will wear over time. If you are seeing a  reduction in specific rate and higher discharge temperatures, wear is the likely culprit.

The calculations required to determine the right melt temperature for each polymer are complicated. Knowing the power-law coefficient and the consistency index of the polymer you run might prove useful.
