Auxiliary equipment and parts-handling product supplier MAC Automation Concepts (Woodstock, Ill.) acquired an additional 4.4 acres to expand its land area to 7.5 acres, while also adding a 30,000-ft2 expansion to its building, which now covers 74,000 ft2.  With the increased land area, MAC notes that there’s the potential for an additional 50,000-ft2 building.

Frank Eltvedt, president & CEO of MAC Automation, said in a release that the expansion was necessary to keep up with the company’s increased sales. The new space will be used primarily for manufacturing, including an expanded area for mechanical and electrical assembly, as well as quality control and finished goods inventory. In addition, the company has built a new sewing room for producing the company’s popular line of gaylord covers.

In addition to an industry-wide trend towards increased automation, Joe Gracia, national sales manager at MAC Automation, said the company is seeing a lot of new business from reshoring.  “Customers continue to automate, as they continue to have trouble finding workers,” Gracia said.  “Our strength is part handling equipment, so the increase in automation is good for our business. We’re seeing new projects in packaging, medical and other markets.”

MAC Automation currently employs 62 in Woodstock—an increase of 15% from 2021. The company expects to employ 70 staff by the end of 2023.
