K 2022: ‘All-in-One’ Bottle Tester Takes Three Measurements at Once
Delta Engineering’s new system performs simultaneous topload, height and both pressure-decay and high-voltage leak testing.

At the recent K 2022 show, Delta Engineering of Belgium (U.S. office in Norcross, Ga.) introduced a “revolutionary” inline quality-control device for blow molders that incorporates a patented “all-in-one technology” whereby one test head can perform four tests at the same time. Those are topload, bottle height, and both pressure-decay and high-voltage leak testing. High-voltage testing detects the smallest microcracks in the base area, which cannot be detected within the time span of pressure-decay measurements. High-voltage testing uniquely also can detect very thin areas in HDPE or PP containers (for example 0.1 mm or less in HDPE) by creating an arc through the bottle wall.
The new system is available with up to four test heads that operate in continuous mode, or a model with start-stop operation for lower speeds. The test head with integrated high-voltage probe seals on the neck of the container. If any one of the four tests fails, the test is aborted and the bottle is rejected.
At K 2022, Delta Engineering also introduced a multifunctional optical inspection system for PET preforms in collaboration with Intravis.
