During the 2023 Battery Show North America, Sept. 12-14 in Novi, Mich., Celanese will showcase its full range of engineered material solutions for advanced mobility. These include three new Fortron PPS grades for overmolding. Celanese says these materials provide excellent thermal shock resistance and have been formulated for metal over-molding applications to mitigate part fracture or loss of function. They are reportedly ideal for developing electric vehicle (EV) components such as busbars, fluid pumps, sealed systems and electrical connectors.

At this show, Celanese will also demonstrate an EV battery replica with cutaway sections showing numerous assemblies and components produced with the resin supplier’s materials, including thermal management, structural components and energy and electrical systems.

It will also showcase an All-in-1 EV Battery Module Prototype (photo). Based on tab cooling, structural thermoplastic cooling channels and an electrical connection plate, this concept can reportedly increase energy density through functional integration of parts, subsequently extending vehicle range and boosting thermal management.

In addition, a hybrid thermoplastic aluminum cooling plate developed with Novares, a global automotive tier 1, will be on display. Based on Celanese ZytelBond treatment technology, it quickly bonds and welds aluminum to injection-molded parts made of Zytel PA, Zytel HTN or Celanyl PA. Zytel HTN will also be highlighted in handles and plugs that connect electric charging station cables to a car's charging socket, providing structural strength and electrical compatibility.

“As our automotive customers advance the electrification process, Celanese is well positioned to meet the needs of the future with its integrated engineered materials portfolio,” says Tom Kelly, senior vice president, engineered materials at Celanese. “We have been developing innovative solutions that help manufacturers meet mobility challenges for decades and look forward to collaborating with visitors at the Battery Show to explore how they can create better products using our advanced materials platforms.”
