Canadian plastics pipe and fittings manufacturer IPEX has opened what it’s calling its U.S. technological flagship manufacturing facility in Pineville, North Carolina. The 200,000-square-foot plant is wholly focused on injection molding and will result in the creation of 150 new jobs. IPEX says it has invested $200 million in the new plant, which will include fully electric molding machines, proprietary automation and various Industry 4.0 initiatives.

A company spokesperson declined to say how many machines the facility would have or their size range, but stated that it does feature fully electric molding machines that will be 30% more energy efficient than hydraulic presses. The facility will manufacture fittings for plumbing, electrical, industrial and municipal applications.

IPEX’s presence in North Carolina goes back more than 20 years, starting with an extrusion plant and distribution facility, and growing to its current footprint of five manufacturing sites and three distribution centers located across the state. In terms of efficiency, IPEX says the plant is fully climate-controlled and, in addition to the fully electric molding machines, it utilizes energy-efficient lighting.
