Covestro Starts Up New TPU Capacity Expansion
Commitment to global burgeoning TPU market shown by Covestro.
Pittsburgh-based Covestro LLC hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 12, at its New Martinsville, West Virginia, to celebrate the successful startup of its TPU capacity expansion. This additional North American capacity, part of the company’s globally investment strategy, reaffirms Covestro’s commitment to supporting growth and innovation as global demand for TPU continues to increase. “By extending our production capabilities in North America, we’re able to meet growing customer demand while also exploring new market opportunities for our TPU business,” said head of TPU commercial operations Brian Long.
This latest investment boosts Covestro’s annual production capacity of TPU in North America by 25% through debottlenecking. The New Martinsville capacity increase follows the company’s recent announcement of a TPU capacity expansion at its Taiwan facility. The capacity expansion supports the company’s Texin product line—a family of versatile materials used in a broad range of applications, such as automotive instrument panels, medical devices and footwear. The New Martinsville facility was the first North American location to produced Texin TPU nearly 50 years ago.
