At the SPE’s 38th Annual Blow Molding Conference in October, Ferruccio Giacobbe received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his pioneering contributions to the development and commercialization of all-electric extrusion blow molding (EBM) machines. Giacobbe is owner and general manager of Magic, the Italian firm that has been at the forefront of all-electric EBM machine development for the last 25 years. He is the son of Magic’s founder Piero Giacobbe, who started the company in 1959. Ferruccio initiated and managed the development of Magic’s first electric blow molder, the “Baby Electric,” which launched in 1997. For the last 10 years. Magic has produced only all-electric machines, promoting their dramatic savings in energy and maintenance costs versus hydraulic machines.
