Wilmington Machinery has recently expanded its lab/trial capabilities by adding a new low-pressure structural foam machine.

Customers now have access to a 500-ton Lumina 2400HE with 50-lb shot capacity. Featuring hydraulic ejection, the machine’s platens measure 70 by 80 in., and it has a 72-in. stroke.

Wilmington says the machine can support processing of high-pressure molds with a cross section of more than 0.1875-in. with chemical foaming agents. The machine can run multiple molds mounted to the large platens.

The machine can also run hot runner, gas assist, gas counterpressure, cold runner, stack and over molding processes.

Possible material trials for the machine could include testing of chemical foaming agents, additives, various recycled materials and compounded materials.

Other services Wilmington can offer include mold trials, engineering change validation, pre-production mold runoffs, low production runs and pallet samples.
